The best time for the Gangtey Trek is between March-May and September-November. It is a short and relatively easy trek with several beautiful villages and monasteries en route. Due to the time consuming nature of traversing the country the content of this tour will be structured around the dates in which you intend to travel and the length of time you wish to spend here.

  • Day 1 - 2

    Arrive Paro & transfer to Thimphu

    • Arrive Paro by flight.
    • Drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital (population 100,000) and visit Tachog Lhakhang.
    • Visit The Traditional paper factory and Bhutan Craft bazaar.
  • Day 3

    Thimphu – Gangtey

    • Today we head for Gangtey. En route, stop at Dochula pass, located on the way to Punakha from Thimphu.
    • Then decent down to Lobesa village for lunch.
    • Continue your journey to Gangtey/Phobjikha valley. 
  • Day 4

    Gangtey Gonpa – Gogona 15km, (Walking time 5 -6 hours)

    • Trek commences today. The trail winds gradually upwards-through meadows and fields, ascending to Tsele-la pass (3,400m) where we stop for lunch.
    • After a last short climb, visit Gogona village. 
  • Day 5

    Gogona - Khotokha 15km, (Walking time 5-6 hours)

    • The trail winds up gently above Gogona village, climbing into a forest of firs, oak, spruce, rhododendron, cypress and junipers.
    • A long and gradual climb takes us up to Shobju-la pass (3,400m).
    • The path leads down to the wide valley of Khotokha.
  • Day 6

    Khotokha – Punakha via Nizergang (16 KM; Walking time 6-7 hours)

    • A short ascent takes us to a pass, Tshele La 3300.
    • Walk down through ever changing vegetation into the drainage of the Dangchu River at 1400 meters.
    • Drive to Punakha.
  • Day 7

    Punakha - Paro

    • Explore the main attractions of Punakha, with a trip to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten and the magnificent Punakha Dzong.
    • In the evening drive back to Paro.
  • Day 8

    Taktsang (Tiger's Nest Monastery) 4-5 hrs Hike.

    • Hike up to the famous cliff-hermitage called Taktsang, the “Tiger’s Nest.” 
  • Day 9

    Departure

    • After breakfast in the hotel, drive to the airport in time to catch up your onward flight.
