A true New Zealand country hideaway, Wharekauhau Lodge is a 'Relais & Chateaux' listed luxury lodge with award winning style. Situated on a five thousand acre working farm in the south east coast of New Zealand's North Island, the Lodge is surrounded by ancient, native forest, spectacular rugged beaches, bountiful rivers and tranquil lakes.

LOCATION

Wharekauhau Lodge is located a 90 minute drive from the city of Wellington, or a 10 minute helicopter flight. The famed Martinborough wine region lies just 30 minutes drive away, the Hawke's Bay region around 4 hours drive away. Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand, is well served by domestic and international flights. The interislander ferry also connects Wellington with the port of Picton in the South Island.

COTTAGE SUITES

Scattered around the grand main lodge, each of the thirteen charming Cottage Suites is sumptuosly furnished, and offer magnificent ocean views from their cliff-top positions. Natural materials are used throughout – clay tiles, pebble mosaics, rich New Zealand wool carpeting, soft cotton linens and hemp curtains lend to the authentic atmosphere and genuine experience. Heated marbled floors and a fireplace keep you comfortable in all seasons.

The stunning 3 bedroom owners cottage is located a short walk from the main lodge, a world-class 4,500 square foot hideaway, sleeping upto 6 adults. It offers complete privacy, and independence, as well as easy access to all of the Wharekauhau amenities.

The 3 bedroom Wharepapa cottage is located 4km from the main lodge, and is ideal for those looking for a more independent stay, with their own transport. Dinners can still be enjoyed at the main lodge.

The main lodge is modelled on the lines of an Edwardian country mansion with grand hall, open wood burning fireplaces, mullioned windows and country style kitchen.

Dining is an exceptional experience, with only New Zealand's finest and freshest ingredients used to craft the menus – which change to reflect the seasons. Choose to dine convivally with fellow guests or select a more secluded and intimate setting for a private dining experience.

Facilties at Wharekauhau include the spa, an impressive 24-metre indoor heated swimming pool, fitness centre and an all-weather tennis court. Activities include tours of the sheep station and coast, hiking, horse riding, ATV quad biking, clay target shooting, archery, spa treatments and visiting the nearby internationally renowned Martinborough wine growing region.
