Glamour on the Rails: Belmond Trains
Venice Simplon-Orient-Express
Arguably the most famous train in the world, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, a Belmond train, whisks guests back to the glamour of the 1920s, complete with tuxedos at dinner and champagne-laced lobster brunches in Paris.
Always one to innovate, in addition to its lavish staterooms and Pullman compartments, the VSOE recently welcomed L'Observatoire, a private and exclusive sleeper carriage designed by leading artist JR.
A key milestone in the history of this legendary train, this new sleeper carriage (which was floated down the lagoon of Venice, as the original Étolie du Nord dining car was 42 years ago) will become the most spacious accommodation on board when it joins the train in 2025.
Andean Explorer
Probably South America's most epic luxury train adventure, the Andean Explorer, operated by Belmond, travels between the historic city of Cusco across the Andes to Lake Titica and finally Arequipa on a series of four one and two-night itineraries. A thoroughly contemporary rail journey catering to just 48 guests each departure, the train features spacious private ensuite cabins by Inge Moore of The Gallery HBA dressed in traditional textiles sourced from across Peru.
After a day exploring the floating villages of Titicaca or ancient rock wall art, head to the semi-open air observation car at the train's rear for a well-earned Pisco Sour.
The Eastern & Oriental Express
Asia's most iconic train, the Eastern & Oriental Express recently relaunched with 16 plush Art Deco-inspired carriages, exciting new Malaysian itineraries, new dining experiences and an indulgent new Dior Spa, the region's first.
After exploring Tiger Country on guided excursions, guests will now be able to return to one of train's staterooms, which were recently refurbished; or make for one of two luxurious spa suites, home to a new wellbeing menu that features five tailor-made treatments - the signature D-Jungle is a rhythmic, deep muscle massage performed using stretching techniques and targeting specific energy points. Alternatively, sample the cuisine of newly appointed culinary curator chef Andre Chiang, which includes Laska Bouillabaisse; Black-bone Chicken Consomme; and Jungle Spices Cacao Ganache.
