Norway’s largest and the world’s northernmost ice hotel is situated in Sorrisniva, about 20 km from Alta in idyllic surroundings on the banks of the Alta River and 25 minutes from Alta airport.
The first Igloo Hotel was built in 2000, every year the theme and construction are is changed. All exterior and interior is made of snow and ice; rooms, the beds, even the glasses in the bar. The hotel has approximately 30 rooms, suites, ice gallery, and ice-chapel, decorated with ice sculptures, beautiful artwork created by talented sculptors. Along with the pure white snow it creates a fairytale atmosphere inside. The temperatures inside the igloo remain constant between minus 4 to minus 7. Thanks to natural reindeer-hides, “mattresses” and sleeping-bags that keep you warm, you will have a comfortable night. It's good to wear woollen underwear and a hat during the night. The sauna is heated every morning at 7am.

This is a unique and intriguing experience amid breathtaking scenery.
The Sami family will guide you along through unforgettable events that highlight their past and present culture. You will meet reindeer, drive your own reindeer sled, and hear stories of the old days and the special singing that is a cornerstone of Sami culture. After the sled ride, you will warm up by the fire in a traditional Sami tent, or “lavvo”, and enjoy hot coffee, tasty cake and other small snacks.
