Get up-close and personal with unique species that mostly can only be found in Borneo Island, Malaysia, the orangutan at Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre and the world's most smallest bear. Spend the first day at Selingan Island, witnessing turtles laying eggs at night, the transplanting process of the eggs to a hatchery and finally the experience of releasing baby turtles back into the wild. Experience the best of the Danum Valley conservation area by staying at the luxury Borneo Rainforest Lodge where Duke and Duchness of Cambridge did stay over in Royal visit tour.

  • Day 1

    Turtle Island Marine Park, Sandakan
    Upon arrival in Sandakan you will be met at the airport and transferred to jetty to board the boat to Selingan Turtle Island. The journey to island will take approximately 1 hour. On arrival registration at the Sabah Parks HQ and check into your room.
     
    The rest of the day is at your leisure – relax on the beach, snorkeling or explore the island. Dinner at the cafeteria while waiting for the park ranger to signal that it is turtle watching time.
    Then proceed in small groups to watch the entire process of the Green turtle laying eggs on the beach (please be informed that only one turtle is shown to the visitors per night). After that the park ranger will transfer the eggs to the hatchery and if the time is right, you will see the release of the baby turtles to the open sea.
  • Day 2

    Sepilok Orangutan, Sepilok and Safari Sukau
    Early morning, head back to Sandakan and proceed to Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre for up-close orangutan encounter. Trek ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden boardwalk to witness the feeding of orangutans from the platform in the forest. Return to reception center, to view the displays and exhibits at the Information Centre. After Sepilok, driving for about 2.5hrs through rustic countryside studded with villages.
     
    On arrival in Sukau village you will be taking a short boat ride to Borneo Nature Lodge. After a brief orientation, you will be given free time to freshen up before lunch.
    Late afternoon embark on a scenic boat trip on the Kinabatangan River in search of wildlife – at dusk you might see an amazing variety of birds, monitor lizards, macaques and proboscis monkeys. 
  • Day 3

    Oxbow Lake and Safari Sukau
     
    Awakened by the calls of gibbon monkeys and the sounds of hornbills. Embark on another river cruise to Kelenanap Oxbow Lake for birdwatching. Take a short jungle walk (if weather permits) and experience the wilderness of Borneo before returning to the lodge for breakfast. The rest of the morning is at your leisure to explore the surrounding areas or nearby villages. Late afternoon embark on another river cruise in search of wildlife.
  • Day 4

    Sukau and Danum Valley
    After breakfast you will be driven to the Danum River, known for its 169 square miles of virtually undisturbed primary rain forest. Spend three days exploring the reserve’s many nature trails on guided hikes. Spot rare species including the Sumatran rhino, pygmy elephant, clouded leopard, Bornean gibbon, and maroon langur. Bird life is equally diverse, with some 275 recorded species.
     
    After lunch, guided trekking along the Nature Trail for an introduction to the rainforest ecosystem where Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have touched down from a rope journey up and down a 130ft tree into the canopy of this Borneo rainforest. This evening, after a slide presentation on Danum Valley Conservation Area, join a night safari on an open-air truck. Using a powerful spot light the guide will point out nocturnal species.
  • Day 5

    Danum Valley
    Rise early this morning and enjoy a whole day in the beautiful Danum Valley.
     
    A short walk from the lodge will bring you to the canopy walkway, suspended 26 metres above the forest floor. The view is magical. In the early mornings, mist hangs over the rainforest, forming a white veil from which only the tallest treetops emerge. After breakfast, climb up the trail which brings you the View Point. Stop along the way to discover the huge variety of flora and fauna. Close to the summit, explore an ancient Kadazandusun burial site. Upon reaching the View Point rewarded with a fantastic view over the valley.
     
    On your return, enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural Jacuzzi pool. After lunch enjoy an extended hike to look for orangutan, birds and other wildlife along nature trails, or join a relaxing session of water tubing down the Danum River. As, darkens falls, enjoy a guided night jungle walk in search in search of nocturnal species.
  • Day 6

    Danum and Lahad Datu
    Rise early for one last wildlife walk through the forest. After lunch, depart for Lahad Datu and catch your next destination flight.
