Mount Kinabalu is Borneo's tallest mountain. You can climb to the top of Low's Peak at 4,095.2 meters above sea level.  It is your physical challenge  to watch sun raise at the summit of Kinabalu Mountain. Before climbing, the chance for your soak at sulphur baths at Poring Hot Springs. 

  • Day 1

    Enjoy hot springs before climbing

    In the early monring, your private guide pick up at the hotel lobby and depart for Poring Hot Springs, located 3 hrs drive from Kota Kinabalu town. Drive across the ridges of the Crocker Range and enjoy spectacular mountain scenery. Poring Hot Springs major attraction are the open air sulphur baths, located in a beautifully landscaped garden.

    A canopy plank-walk enables to experience and observe the jungle from a different point of view. Proceed to the hot sulphur pools where one may soak in the hot water.

    Depart to Kinabalu National Park.

    The park is a paradise for botanists, bird watchers and nature lovers, being home to several plant species, some of which are found only in this area. Lunch at a local mountain lodge. Proceed for a guided walk through some of the several park trails.

    The guide will point out the various plants identifying the many species of orchid, rhododendrons, pitcher plants and ferns found among the oak and chestnut forest.

  • Day 2

    Climbing with a Park Ranger

    After breakfast, drive to park headquarters. Proceed by car to the Power Station, at 1829 m above sea level. The summit trail starts from here. Participants will be assisted by the guide who will lead the climb together with a Park Ranger. During the climb it is interesting to observe the change in the vegetation, passing from oak forest to mossy forests, to bamboo and fern trees forests. There are several shelters where it is possible to rest before continuing. A picnic lunch is provided.

    The arrival at Laban Rata Resthouse, at 3353 m. above sea level, is estimated at about 1600 hrs. Rest of the day to relax after the long climb. 

  • Day 3

    Reach 4,098 meters

    Morning call is given at 0200 hrs. After a light breakfast, start the last part of the climb. Departure is estimated at around 2.45 hrs. The trail is well marked but a good torchlight is recommended. The final trek is on bare granite rock surface. Reach the summit, at 4098 m above sea level, in time for the sun rising over a spectacular view of the surrounding forests. Following the same trail, descend back to Laban Rata for a well deserved meal.

    After a short rest, start the trek down to the Power Station and proceed by van to the park headquarters. A certificate is given to those who reach the summit. After lunch at the Mountain Lodge, return to Kota Kinabalu.

Laban Rata Resthouse offers comfortable yet basic accommodation. Rooms are equipped with 4 or 6 bunk beds and electric heaters. Facilities are centralized and meals are served in a spacious canteen with a superb panoramic view.
